Creating an affordable housing unit that is remains economically viable for investors while teaching others how to do the same
Project Context
Over the last year, I have written a research paper titled "Creating Affordable Housing in Seattle". This paper was inspired by the homelessness crises in Seattle stemming from rising housing prices. I wanted to investigate solutions the city had for the rising housing costs and how individuals could create more housing affordability.
My goal for this blog is the document the backyard cottage construction process while simultaneously teaching others how to build one for themselves. Backyard cottages are the future of dense housing and they are vital for creating affordable housing.
By sharing every step—from the exciting moments to the frustrating setbacks—I hope to demystify the DADU building process and empower others to pursue their own housing solutions. This isn't just about one building project; it's about contributing to a larger conversation about how we can create more livable, sustainable communities.
